Most young adults work abroad and return to their communities during the Tinku celebration.
It is the capital of the Tinku celebration and has become the place of the most intense and deadly combat. Tinku means meeting in Quechua and it is celebrated in honor of the feast of the Southern Cross, at which time the constellation of the Southern Cross is on the territory, forming a chacana. The celebration takes place from May 3 to 6 and is considered a sacred offering to the Pachamama to inaugurate the agricultural year with abundance and prosperity.
