Push Play – Open Call for Pitches
From 30 November to 3 December 2023, the SONIC MATTER Festival for experimental music will take place in Zurich for the third time. As a warm-up, the Studio Zeitgenössische Musik of the Zurich University of the Arts, in collaboration with SONIC MATTER, will host an evening of performances and installations on Monday, 27 November 2023, offering a platform to young voices working on the diverse field of current sound-related art. The focus will be on explorations of this year's geographical festival focus, West Asia, and the festival motto «LEAP». ZHdK students from all departments can apply for participation.

The motto of the 2023 festival edition is «LEAP» - the leap into the future, with courage, hope and resilience, over hurdles, ready to embrace the unknown and the uncertain. The submitted projects should refer to this thematic field.
The call is open to collectives as well as to individuals currently studying at the Zurich University of the Arts ( in the case of collectives, this should apply to a large part of the group). New or existing projects that are related to the above-mentioned thematic focus and are clearly situated in the domain of sound-related art may be submitted.
Format
Open. Compositional contributions as well as performative and installative formats are welcome. The performers must be provided by the project.
Duration
In order to allow for the participation of several projects, the aspired maximum length per set for compositions and performative formats is 20 minutes.
Technical Specifications
Sound system: maximum 8.2 speaker set (8 speakers, 2 subwoofers).
A screen and a high-performance beamer are available.
Sound and direction of light and sound are implemented in cooperation with the production centre. The technical requirements must comply with the means of the equipment available at ZHdK rental services.
The selection of projects is made in a two-step process: In a first step, you can apply to participate in a pitch session by submitting the corresponding form. If you successfully participate in the pitch session, you will be asked by the jury to submit a detailed dossier. In a final step, the projects for «PUSH PLAY» will be selected from the submitted dossiers.
