Biography | ARTIST SONIC MATTER_VIDEO LOUNGE Mariana Carvalho (São Paulo/Berlin) is a performer, improviser, pianist and sound artist. She works with body, voices, listening, relation, distance, gender, inner sounds, nylon, eutony. She is currently at the Sound Studies and Sonic arts master program at UdK, in Berlin. She is part of Sonora - músicas e feminismos, brazilian feminist network. ABOUT THE WORK objetocovid19: tapa bocas (2020) Tapa bocas is an object created for a viral invitation by Ce Pams in the very beginning of the pandemic and in that case spread via Javier Bustos. Inspired by the work of Ines Terra, the object is a mask made with aluminium folium, which vibrates when activated by the voice. While the use of medical and fabric masks muffle our voices, this material makes it louder, noisy. In the video, the artist shouts throughout her window in lockdown, amidst other shouting voices against the president Jair Bolsonaro, in São Paulo, Brazil. It was one more day of the recurrent |
