«Swissmill, rebuilt the landscape» is a research project that engages a deconstructed narrative. «Gritting our teeth» is a stereo fragment of this research. Rooted in the city centre, this site is a symbol of contemporary industry in Zürich. Observed through different prisms and testimonies, I am interested in its excessiveness and sound ecology.
On the banks of the Limmat, three benches are facing Swissmill industrial site. The tiny sound of ventilation and water reflects the mystique of this place. Many people come here to relax, stop for lunch or simply to contemplate the complex panorama.
This sound piece is based on sound recordings and transcribes the invisibility of the activity of a metal workshop on the site. The location of the industrial site is a problem for the residents of the Wipkingen district opposite, a situation that makes you grind your teeth.
The shrill machine recordings are evidence of a noisy but imperceptible working environment. Will this work be an opportunity for a future meeting between the two shores?
